Betis players inflicted their first defeat on Real Madrid since Mourinho's return

Real Madrid lost 0-1 to Betis in an away match of the fourth round of the Spanish football championship, APA reports.

Irish striker Troy Parrott scored in the 81st minute. In the 87th minute, Real Madrid's Spanish forward Carlos Espi scored with an overhead kick, but the goal was disallowed for offside. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Real Madrid's French striker Kylian Mbappé missed a penalty.

Real Madrid suffered their first defeat since José Mourinho's return as head coach in June. Prior to that, the team had won three games at the start of the Spanish league season, beating Espanyol (2-1), Real Sociedad (4-1), and Málaga (4-0).

After four rounds, Real Madrid and Betis each have nine points. Barcelona, which still has a fourth match to play, has the same number of points. The Catalan club will play Valencia away on September 6.

In the next round, Real Madrid will host Rayo Vallecano on September 12. Betis will play Villarreal away on September 14.
