In a truly dramatic comeback, defending champion Argentina defeated Egypt 3-2 in the Round of 16 match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup held at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Tuesday, APA reports.
The Egyptian side built a two-goal lead with Yasser Ibrahim scoring in the 15th minute and Ahmed Mostafa Mohamed Sayed, known as Zizo, scoring in the 67th minute. A fruitless penalty shot by legend Leonel Messi made him the first player in World Cup history to miss two penalties in a single edition of the tournament.
Messi then went on to assist Cristian Romero's first goal in the 79th minute and to equalize the points in the 84th minute. Enzo Fernandez scored the decisive goal in the 93rd minute.
