Malta Football Association refused AFFA’s proposal on holding friendly match, chief of AFFA national teams department Bahruz Asgarov told APA-Sport agency. He said that Maltese were not satisfied with the date of the match.
“Malta Football Association said that the country’s team will play against Albania on August 18. Following this, Maltese will leave for Czechia. Therefore, they refused friendly match,” he said.
Asgarov said that they will offer friendly match to another country after speaking to AFFA secretary general Elkhan Mammadov.
“We have 5-6 candidates both from Europe and Asia. We will send fax to the rival after consulting with the secretary general,” he said.
National teams of Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Jordan have also rejected AFFA’s proposal.
AFFA official said that the negotiations with United Arab Emirates have been suspended.
“We tried to contact United Arab Emirates several times, but in vain. So we decided to suspend the negotiations. Besides, we will meet with Georgian team in Baku on September 12 and there is no need to play against United Arab Emirates,” he said. /APA/
