Two people have been detained as a result of special operations carried out in Georgia’s Gardabani and Kareli municipalities, the State Security Service of Georgia said, APA’s local bureau reports.
The individuals, who are Georgian citizens, are accused of joining a foreign terrorist organization and assisting terrorist activities.
The investigation established that the individuals had joined the ISIS terrorist organization, pledged allegiance to the organization’s leader and undertaken to obey him unconditionally.
During searches of the detainees and their residences, various types of ammunition and a number of other items, including a hand grenade, were seized as material evidence.
The investigation is being conducted under an article of the Georgian Criminal Code covering membership in a foreign terrorist organization and assistance to terrorist activities. The offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 10 to 17 years.
