Azerbaijan, as a stable country, demonstrates a dynamic environment, openness and commitment to innovation and diversification, Valerio De Molli, CEO of The European House – Ambrosetti & TEHA Group, said during his speech at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku, APA reports.
He said Azerbaijan has made significant progress in economic development and structural indicators over the past 25 years.
According to De Molli, while Azerbaijan's gross national income per capita was approximately three times lower than the global average 25 years ago, it has now reached the global average.
He noted that Azerbaijan's economic dynamism is also reflected in a number of international indicators. According to statistics presented by De Molli, the country has achieved strong results globally across a number of indicators in recent years.
“Azerbaijan's total exports currently amount to $25.5 billion. Twenty years ago, this figure was approximately $1 billion,” he said.
De Molli emphasized that the share of oil and gas in Azerbaijan's exports remains high, accounting for 83% of total exports. At the same time, he said the growth dynamics of non-oil exports are significant.
He said export growth is being observed in a number of areas of the non-oil sector. Highlighting the rapid development of the tourism sector in recent years, De Molli noted that revenues from the sector currently amount to approximately $2 billion.
De Molli also said that Azerbaijan shows positive indicators in terms of foreign investment, emphasizing the country's increasing economic openness and diversification of markets.
He also cited the development of scientific research and high-tech exports among important indicators of Azerbaijan's economic dynamism.
In his speech, Valerio De Molli also touched upon Azerbaijan's role in the changing global economic order. He said Asia is currently the world's fastest-growing economic region and that this process is increasing the economic opportunities of the broader region in which Azerbaijan is located.
