Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan interparliamentary cooperation discussed

Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan Gismet Gozalov met with Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Gahryman Ovlyakulyyevich Rozyyev and Chairman of the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan Interparliamentary Friendship Group Annamuhammet Sarjayev, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Turkmenistan told APA.

During the meeting, it was noted that fraternal relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, as well as their strategic partnership, are successfully developing in various areas. It was emphasized that the historical, cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious commonalities between the Azerbaijani and Turkmen peoples form a solid foundation for bilateral relations.

Satisfaction was expressed with the recent dynamics of the development of Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan relations. In this regard, it was noted that the visit of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Turkmenistan in 2025, the visits of National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Azerbaijan, as well as high-level mutual contacts, have made an important contribution to further strengthening bilateral relations.

The importance of the state visit of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Azerbaijan on June 22–23, 2026, was also emphasized. It was noted that the signing of a Joint Statement and documents covering various fields by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan during the visit was important in terms of further expanding the legal framework for bilateral cooperation.

It was noted that the signing of a Memorandum on cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries in Ashgabat in 2022 was an important step toward strengthening the institutional foundations of interparliamentary relations. It was also emphasized that the meeting between National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Speaker of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova during his visit to Azerbaijan on July 16, 2025, was of great importance for the development of interparliamentary relations.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
