Baku – APA. European football’s governing body has banned midfielder Gennaro Gattuso of Italian club AC Milan for four matches following a head-butting incident in a Champions League match last week, APA reports quoting “The Voice of America”.
In a statement Monday, UEFA’s disciplinary body handed down the four-game suspension after finding that Gattuso’s assault of Tottenham assistant coach Joe Jordan following the match constituted “gross unsporting conduct.” The two men also clashed earlier in the game in a separate incident.
The incidents took place last Tuesday in the round-of-16 first-leg match in Milan, which Tottenham won, 1-0. The four-match ban is in addition to a one-match suspension Gattuso received for yellow cards, which will force him to miss the return-leg in London March 9.
The 33-year-old Italian player took full responsibility and apologized for his behavior. He can appeal the punishment to UEFA within three days.
