EU to work out new mechanisms to promote East Partnership Program

Baku. Nidzhat Mustafayev - APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s Minister of Economic Development, Heydar Babayev met in Baku with Janos Herman, the European Commission Foreign Relations Deputy Director-General and Principal Adviser.
The ministry said in a press release that Heydar Babayev underscored Azerbaijan’s close cooperation with the EU and European integration as one of the country’s foreign policy priorities.
«In this regard, work is under way to bring the national legislation in line with the European standards and to achieve Azerbaijan’s WTO accession,” he added.
According to the minister, the WTO accession efforts has accelerated and the fifth meeting of the working party in Geneva in May yielded good results to Azerbaijan.
“The sixth meeting is due to take place before the end of the year,” he added.
In turn, Janos Herman added that achievements gained by Azerbaijan are in the focus of the European Commission.
According to him, the EU is interested in cooperation with the South Caucasus region, and launched a new project – the East Partnership Program which envisions the development of free trade, economic migration, environmental protection, etc. “This program will last until 2013 and the EU intends to develop new mechanisms for the development of this initiative,”.
