Azerbaijan remains fully committed to advancing the goals of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC), Speaker of the Milli Majlis (Parliament), Sahiba Gafarova said during her speech at the opening ceremony of the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Member States in Baku, APA reports.
She noted that OIC member states had consistently demonstrated solidarity with Azerbaijan both during and after the occupation.
"The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and its member states have always taken a principled position regarding the occupied territories and the situation in the region. In line with the numerous decisions and resolutions adopted over the past 30 years, we will continue our cooperation and support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. We thank our partner countries for their continued support on this issue,” Sahiba Gafarova said.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasized that Azerbaijan has been actively promoting Islamic solidarity.
“Within this framework, various initiatives such as a youth school and a labor center have been implemented. Numerous events have been organized to promote Islamic culture and demonstrate that Islam is a religion of peace, progress, and prosperity,” the Speaker of the Milli Majlis noted.
She also spoke about the challenges facing the Islamic world: “Today, the Islamic world faces serious problems such as poverty, social and economic difficulties, armed conflicts, humanitarian crises, terrorism, and extremism. At the same time, there is a need to increase joint efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. To overcome these challenges and ensure lasting peace, the Islamic world must act together and promote values such as peace, tolerance, harmony, and justice. In our increasingly complex and interdependent world, it is becoming ever more important for countries to support one another and unite around common goals.”
