The Eurasian Development Bank can be a useful partner for Azerbaijan in a number of areas, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Economist of the Eurasian Development Bank Evgeny Vinokurov said at a roundtable titled “Azerbaijan as a Logistics Hub of Eurasia: Harmonizing Interests Between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the South Caucasus,” APA-Economics reports.

According to him, the bank’s management paid its first official visit to Azerbaijan last year, creating significant expectations for future cooperation.

“Undoubtedly, we are ready to develop cooperation in the format most suitable for the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is of fundamental importance for us that all steps and directions of potential investment activity are coordinated with the Azerbaijani leadership.

Our internal analyses show that we can be a useful partner in several sectors in Azerbaijan. These include financing industry, electric power, not only renewable energy sources but also traditional energy sectors — from clean coal technologies to natural gas — supporting agriculture, and, of course, the transport sector,” Evgeny Vinokurov said.

He noted that the transport sector is one of the key and strongest areas of the Eurasian Development Bank’s activities. The bank has accumulated extensive experience in this field and possesses significant expertise in implementing public-private partnership (PPP) projects and other major infrastructure projects.

“This includes railways and highways, ports, airports, urban infrastructure, including metro systems, rolling stock for metro networks, as well as wagons and locomotives used across the 1,520 mm railway gauge area.

In the context of Azerbaijan, this also includes shipping and shipbuilding in the Caspian Sea,” he added.

Evgeny Vinokurov emphasized that the transport sector is one of the most promising and priority areas for future cooperation between the Eurasian Development Bank and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
