A conference titled “Azerbaijan as a Middle Power: Foreign Policy, Regional Influence and Global Participation” has been held, APA reports.
The conference was dedicated to discussing Azerbaijan’s growing role in the international relations system, its position as a “middle power,” and the key factors shaping this status.
Representatives of state institutions, think tanks, higher education institutions and other academic organizations, members of the Milli Majlis, experts, young researchers and media representatives participated in the event.
Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of the Center of Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), stated that the main purpose of the conference was to discuss Azerbaijan’s growing role in the international system, present the results of research conducted in this area, and exchange views on new proposals.
Eldar Namazov, Director of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, noted that not only major powers but also countries capable of exerting significant influence on regional and global processes play an important role in international relations.
Fariz Ismayilzada, member of the Milli Majlis and Vice Rector of ADA University, emphasized that Azerbaijan has strengthened its role as a mediator in the region in recent years, hosted various international negotiations, and actively participated in peacekeeping missions and humanitarian projects. According to him, Azerbaijan also plays an important role in energy security and transport corridors, serving as a reliable bridge between Europe and Asia.
Farhad Mammadov, Director of the South Caucasus Research Center, stated that even powerful states do not always achieve the results they seek. According to him, the criteria defining the concept of a “middle power” change over time, and the characteristics of the historical period should also be taken into account when assessing this status.
The conference continued with discussions and a question-and-answer session.
