Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov's body will be repatriated to Russia on Tuesday, with high-level Turkish officials expected to take part in a memorial service at the Ankara airport, the Russian Embassy said.
"A memorial service will be held at the airport today, with the participation of Turkey's top leadership and representatives of the diplomatic corps. Afterward, the body will be repatriated accompanied by the widow, the embassy's doctor and an Emergencies Ministry doctor," press attaché Irina Kasimova told RIA Novosti.
The Russian diplomat was shot dead by an armed gunman on Dec. 19 evening as he made a speech during the opening of a photo exhibition devoted to Russia in the Center for Contemporary Art in Turkey’s capital Ankara.
The attacker, identified as police officer Mert Altintas, was killed by local security forces shortly after.
