Emin Aliyev, who is suspected of murdering Azerbaijani citizen Fatima Karimova in Tbilisi, has been charged with murder committed on the grounds of intolerance towards gender equality, APA's local bureau reports.

According to a statement released by the Georgian Prosecutor's Office, the Prosecutor's Office will apply to the court within the established timeframe to request pre-trial detention for the accused and will declare him wanted.

The crime is punishable by up to 20 years' imprisonment or life imprisonment.

It should be noted that the murder took place on June 25.

Fatima Karimova, a resident of Azerbaijan's Aghjabadi district, was murdered in Georgia by her relative, Emin Aliyev.

Fatima Karimova traveled to Georgia together with her acquaintance Kenan Aliyev. According to the information, Kenan Aliyev tore up Fatima Karimova's passport, preventing her from returning to Azerbaijan. Unable to return to Azerbaijan, Fatima Karimova asked her relative Emin Aliyev for help. Emin Aliyev traveled to Georgia, strangled Fatima to death and fled from Georgia to Türkiye.

Georgian law enforcement authorities declared E. Aliyev wanted. He was detained in Türkiye.

The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan has announced that it is keeping under close attention the preliminary investigation into the criminal case concerning the intentional murder of Azerbaijani citizen Fatima Karimova in Tbilisi.
