An import control mechanism will be introduced for non-food consumer goods, APA reports.

This is reflected in the proposed amendment to the Customs Code, which was discussed at today's session of the Milli Majlis.

The proposed draft law envisages ensuring that non-food consumer goods imported into the country are accompanied by a certificate of conformity, a declaration of conformity, or recognized foreign conformity documents confirming compliance with the requirements of technical regulations regarding safety indicators.

According to the draft, the regime applied to non-food consumer goods imported into the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan will be aligned with the regime applied to similar goods of domestic or other foreign origin in order to ensure a competitive environment, support local production, and prevent the import of goods that do not comply with technical regulations, namely mandatory requirements aimed at protecting human life and health, the environment, property, and state interests.

Taking into account the state's policy priorities aimed at developing entrepreneurship and supporting the business environment in the country, the draft provides for a 24-month transition period for business entities engaged in the import of non-food consumer goods to adapt their activities to the requirements of the new legislation.

The draft law was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
