“An operational report as of 6:00 on May 5 says that thanks to successful efforts of the Ukrainian defenders, the Russian forces lost control over several settlements on the border of the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions,” the update reads.

At the same time, the Russians are provoking tensions in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, regrouping troops in certain areas, taking measures to replenish reserves, and trying to improve the tactical position of their units.

In Donetsk and Luhansk regions, Ukraine repulsed 11 Russian attacks and destroyed five main battle tanks, seven armored combat vehicles, and five military trucks over the past day.

Russian forces are trying to run offensive operations in the Lyman, Sieiverodonetsk, and Popasna areas, none of which are seeing success.

In the Mariupol district, Russian forces are focusing their efforts on blocking and trying to destroy Ukrainian units holding defense at the Azovstal plant. With the support of aircraft, the enemy resumed the assault in order to take control of the facility.

On the previous day, Ukraine’s air defense units downed nine air targets: four UAVs and three cruise missiles. Two warplanes were also hit. According to a preliminary report, these were Su-30 fighter jets. The information is being clarified.
