Türkiye will take over NATO's Enhanced Air Policing mission from Portugal on July 31, APA's Türkiye bureau reports.

The announcement was made during the Turkish Ministry of National Defense's weekly media briefing.

Ministry spokesperson Zeki Aktürk said the handover ceremony will be held on July 31.

According to him, the deployment of the Turkish contingent, which will serve at Estonia's Ämari Air Base from August 1 to November 30, 2026, has already been completed. As part of the mission, five F-16 fighter jets and the personnel assigned to the operation have been deployed to the base.

Aktürk noted that during the mission, the Turkish Armed Forces will contribute to ensuring the security of Baltic airspace. The forces will remain on combat alert 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to carry out air policing tasks.
