NATO has confirmed that a drone carrying an explosive device and a detonator was discovered near a Ukrainian cargo aircraft at Germany's Leipzig/Halle Airport, DPA reports.
According to the agency, the drone was found on the airport's runway near a Ukrainian An-124 Antonov cargo aircraft. Explosive ordnance disposal specialists were dispatched to the scene, and the southern runway was temporarily closed.
German police are investigating the incident.
According to local media, investigators are also considering the possibility that the incident was a deliberate act of sabotage.
