From January to August 2025, Azerbaijan imported 26,946 tons of “crude palm oil and its fractions” worth 38.415 million US dollars, APA-Economics reports, citing its calculations based on the report of the State Statistical Committee.
Compared to the corresponding period in 2024, this indicator decreased by 26.6% or 9.8 thousand tons in volume terms, and by 10.7% or 4.6 million US dollars in value terms. In the first eight months of 2024, Azerbaijan imported 36,705 tons of “crude palm oil and its fractions” worth 42.995 million US dollars.
During this period, the average import price of 1 kg of palm oil brought into the country amounted to 2.42 manats. In the reporting period, Azerbaijan imported 1,129 tons of palm oil from Malaysia and 25,816 tons from Indonesia.
Recall that over the past 30 years, palm oil, which has played the role of the main substitute for trans fats, has been widely used in the food industry, particularly by confectionery, ice cream, chocolate, and chips producers.
Note that palm oil is widely used in margarine production worldwide. During the reporting period, 31,653.5 tons of margarine were produced in Azerbaijan.
