At the Baku Energy Forum 2022, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the World Bank Group and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will launch the first-ever Azerbaijan Offshore Wind Roadmap to provide strategic vision and recommendations for the country to tap into its 157GW of offshore wind potential – over 20 times the country’s current installed energy capacity, International Finance Corporation told APA-Economics.
The roadmap launch will bring together the main stakeholders behind the roadmap, as well as representatives from mature offshore wind countries, to discuss the technical, economic, environmental, social, employment, and financing aspects of establishing the country’s offshore wind market.
The Baku Energy Forum has historically brought together stakeholders from the oil & gas sector, but as the world and Azerbaijan’s energy strategy is changing, so too is this event. The launch of this offshore wind roadmap at this forum is a clear sign that the country is moving to diversify its energy and economic strategy, and will inform stakeholders of the significant opportunities that renewable energy technologies such as offshore wind hold for the country.
