KTZ Express, a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways), has carried out a pilot export shipment of crushed rice produced in Kazakhstan to the Port of Antwerp in Belgium via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor - ed.), APA-Economics reports, citing Kazakhstan Railways.
“The route operates as an international multimodal transport corridor connecting Central Asia with Europe via the Caspian and Black Seas. The transportation was organized in a multimodal format, involving railway infrastructure and maritime shipping lines,” the statement said.
According to the information, the logistics scheme was formed along the “Kyzylorda – Port of Aktau – Port of Poti – Port of Antwerp” route and involves the sequential use of rail and maritime transport. Shipments across the sea section between Poti and Antwerp are carried out with the participation of the international shipping group CMA CGM Group.
It is noted that previously, cargo deliveries along this route were mainly carried out via a land corridor, passing through the Semigolovy Mar border crossing point and then onward to Brest, Duisburg, and Antwerp. The use of the infrastructure of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route has made it possible to significantly optimize the logistics chain. In particular, transportation costs along the new route are lower compared to the Northern Corridor, while transit times are almost the same. The estimated transit time is approximately 30 days.
