Gas production from deep layers in ACG can start next year

The gas production from the deep layers in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) field block in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea can be started at early 2025, bp's Vice president for wells in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye region Jim O'Leary told APA-Economics.

According to him, within the framework of the plans to implement producing gas from the deep layers in the ACG, it isplanned to start the drilling for the first production well in the second half of 2024.

Jim O'Leary added that last year, the drilling of an appraisal well within the said project was successfully completed.

According to him, based on the information obtained, the drilling of a production well was decided.

Jim O'Leary also emphasized that if the first production well is successful, the company expects to produce the first gas early next year.

Note that on February 7, 2023, the drilling of a new appraisal well was started in order to collect information about the deep gas layers under the operational oil field in ACG, and the well was completed in April.

Notably, the share distribution in ACG is as follows: BP – 30.37% (operator), AzACG (SOCAR) – 25.00%, MOL – 9.57%, "Inpex" – 9.31%, "Equinor" (formerly Statoil) – 7.27%, ExxonMobil – 6.79%, TPAO – 5.73%, Itochu – 3.65% and ONGC Videsh Ltd. (OVL) – 2.31%.
