The European Commission will propose a ban on European Union member states purchasing Russian oil in early 2026, APA-Economics reports, citing TASS.
European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jørgensen said the proposal would aim to prohibit the remaining supplies of Russian oil to the EU.
“In early 2026, the European Commission will submit a proposal to ban the remaining deliveries of Russian oil to the European Union,” he said.
It was noted that seaborne supplies of Russian oil to the EU were banned back in 2023. Currently, Russian oil continues to be transported to some European countries—particularly Hungary—via pipelines.
