The main reason for the “SOCAR Carbamide” plant receiving the Digital Lighthouse Award was the implementation of digitalization, artificial intelligence, and a number of solutions in line with Industry 4.0 requirements at the plant, resulting in increased efficiency and production capacity, said Emil Alkhaslı, Chief Executive Officer of SOCAR Downstream Management LLC, in his comments to journalists, APA-Economics reports.
“One of the reasons for granting the award is related to the reduction of unplanned shutdowns and the implementation of a number of applications. This award is primarily connected with the results of the work carried out by the plant’s operations team, as well as efforts aimed at increasing efficiency and improving performance through the application of digital solutions. Within this framework, the project was implemented over a two-year period. In 2023 and 2024, key foundations were laid, followed by the implementation of analytical solutions, which led to improvements in operational capacity and reductions in costs,” Emil Alkhasli noted.
According to him, during the specified period, the plant’s production capacity was increased by more than 21%. In terms of efficiency, fuel consumption per ton of urea produced — natural gas fuel — was reduced by more than 24%. A number of solutions were applied to achieve this result.
“SOCAR joined this network in 2018. In 2020, ‘Petkim’, and in 2021, the ‘STAR’ oil refinery received this award. Now the carbamide plant has been added to this list. SOCAR is the only state oil company in the world to have received this award three times,” Emil Alkhasli emphasized.
