EBRD: Renewable energy auctions are big step for sustainable energy sector in Azerbaijan

“Azerbaijan's decision to introduce auctions for renewable energy sources is a big step towards a diversified and sustainable energy sector,” said Director of Energy and Natural Resources for Russia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia at the the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Aida Sitdikova as she commented on the holding of an auction for the design, financing, construction and operation of a 100 MW solar power plant in the Gobustan district, APA-Economics reports.

“In recent years, the government has reformed, developed strategies and introduced legislation to attract green private sector finance. In accordance with the country's green agenda, the EBRD, has supported local government bodies in developing the necessary legal and regulatory framework to implement competitive procurement for renewable energy, for example, via information included in the new Renewable Energy Law. EBRD is proud of playing a key role in this process and expresses graditute to the interested parties working for this, including the Ministry of Energy, Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency,” - Aida Sitdikova said.
