BP is conducting seismic survey work at the “Garabagh” oil field and the “Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara” (ADUA) area, APA-Economics reports, citing BP’s report on its activities in Azerbaijan for the first quarter of 2026.
According to the report, an ocean bottom node (OBN) seismic survey was carried out at the “Garabagh” field to enhance understanding of the reservoir, support well planning, and optimize field development strategies. The survey began in December 2025 and was completed ahead of schedule in mid-March. Processing of the acquired data is currently ongoing.
“This was followed by the launch of a high-resolution (HR)/ultra-high-resolution (UHR) seismic survey program in mid-March. The main objective of this survey is to identify geological risks that could affect well integrity, as well as subsurface hazards that may hinder the safe installation of platforms and other infrastructure. The HR/UHR seismic survey is planned to last up to 45 days,” the report states.
The report also notes that, as a first step in the ADUA project, a 2D high-resolution (HR) seismic survey was conducted at water depths of 20–40 meters. This survey, which began in mid-April and covered a small area in the northwestern part of the ADUA block, lasted 20 days. The main objective of the study is to obtain detailed data on subsurface layers down to approximately 1,500 meters to support the planning of future exploration wells. The survey will help identify subsurface geological risks that could affect drilling operations and well integrity, including faults, shallow gas accumulations, and other geological features.
It should be noted that in June 2025, BP joined the existing Risk Service Agreement (RSA) for the development of the “Garabagh” oil field and the Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) for the “Ashrafi-Dan Ulduzu-Aypara” (ADUA) area. BP is the operator of both agreements, having acquired a 35% participating interest from SOCAR in each contract.
