Kazakhstan plans to expand oil exports via Azerbaijan

Kazakhstan currently sees no alternative to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) in terms of economics and transportation volumes, but is working on the development of new export routes, said Askhat Khassenov, Chairman of the Management Board of KazMunayGas, during a meeting of the Public Council of Samruk-Kazyna, Interfax reports.

According to him, special attention is being paid to the development of the transport corridor passing through Azerbaijan as part of the diversification of export routes.

"One of the important routes is the Atyrau–Aktau corridor and further through Azerbaijan. A feasibility study is currently being prepared for this project," the head of KazMunayGas said.

Khassenov added that work has also begun with Chinese partners on preparing a feasibility study for the expansion project of the Kazakhstan–China oil pipeline.

Note that the Caspian Pipeline Consortium is the main export route for oil produced at Kazakhstan's Tengiz, Kashagan and Karachaganak fields. Around 70.5 million tonnes of oil were transported through the consortium in 2025, while 72 million tonnes are forecast to be transported in 2026. Foreign shippers include Chevron, ExxonMobil, Eni, Shell and KazMunayGas.
