The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs has issued a statement on the anniversary of the historic peace agreement reached in Washington on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, APA reports.
The statement by the French Foreign Ministry noted that August 8, 2026 marks the first anniversary of the historic agreement on the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“Over the past year, the authorities of both countries have taken important and courageous steps to make peace tangible for their peoples,” the statement said.
The French Foreign Ministry stated that it hopes the process will continue with the signing and ratification of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the opening of borders and the development of regional connectivity:
“This could enable the South Caucasus to once again become a zone of comprehensive cooperation and a link between Europe and Asia.”
The statement also noted that France, together with its European partners, will continue to actively contribute to ensuring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and Armenia:
“This will be carried out with full respect for both countries.”
