One year passes since initialing of peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington

One year has passed since the signing of the Washington Declaration, APA reports.

On August 8, 2025, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, US President Donald Trump and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed the Joint Declaration on the results of the meeting of the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington.

With the Joint Declaration, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia and the President of the United States of America Donald Trump witnessed the initialing of the agreed text of the “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia” by the foreign ministers of the parties. In this context, the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia recognized the need to continue taking additional measures for the signing and eventual ratification of the Agreement and stressed the importance of ensuring and strengthening peace between the countries.

The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia also witnessed the signing of a joint appeal to the OSCE by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia on the closure of the Minsk Process and its related structures of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and called on all OSCE participating States to adopt this decision.

The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia reaffirmed the importance of opening communications between the two countries to ensure domestic, bilateral and international transport in order to promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region and its neighborhood, based on respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and jurisdiction of states.

Note that these efforts include unhindered connectivity between the main part of the Republic of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and mutual benefits for the Republic of Armenia in international and domestic connections. At the same time, according to the Joint Declaration, the Republic of Armenia will cooperate with the United States of America and mutually identified third parties to define a framework for the “Trump Roadmap for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) connectivity project on the territory of the Republic of Armenia. The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia reaffirmed their determination to make good faith efforts to achieve this goal as soon as possible. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia recognized the need to embark on a bright future, free from the bondage of the past conflict, in accordance with the UN Charter and the 1991 Almaty Declaration. It was noted that after the conflict that caused deep human suffering, conditions have finally been created for the start of building good-neighborly relations between our states on the basis of the inviolability of international borders and the inadmissibility of the use of force for territorial acquisition. It was emphasized that this reality, which is not and will never be subject to revision, paves the way for the closing of the page of hostility between the states. The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia resolutely rejected and excluded any attempt at retaliation now and in the future.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia expressed their confidence that the Washington Summit would form a solid foundation for promoting mutual respect and peace in the region.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia expressed their deep gratitude to the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, for the warm hospitality and important contribution to the normalization of bilateral relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia within the framework of hosting the important Washington Summit.

Note that following the joint appeal of Azerbaijan and Armenia to the OSCE Chairmanship, in accordance with the decision of the OSCE Ministerial Council adopted on September 1, 2025, the closure of the Minsk Process and its related structures was completed on November 30, 2025.
