Large-scale works are being carried out by the Azerbaijani state for the integration into the energy system of the 240-megawatt ‘Shafag’ Solar Power Plant, which is being built by BP in the Jabrayil district as the first industrial-scale solar power station in the liberated territories and the largest direct foreign investment project, AzerEnergy told APA-Economics.

In accordance with the cooperation agreement between BP and AzerEnergy, a new 330/33-kilovolt substation has been built in Jabrayil and a 7.5-kilometer double-circuit 330-kilovolt high-voltage transmission line has been constructed for connecting the ‘Shafag’ Solar Power Plant to the energy system.

The main purpose of the projects is to support public–private partnership, reduce carbon emissions, save natural gas, and increase the share of renewable energy sources. These projects will make an important contribution to Azerbaijan’s ‘green energy’ transition and energy security. It is planned that the electricity generated at the station will be transmitted within the framework of the ‘Virtual Power Transfer Mechanism’ (VPTA) to the 330 kV ‘Jabrayil’ Energy Hub, and from there to the energy system, with an equivalent amount of energy supplied to the Sangachal terminal.

Work at the newly constructed ‘Jabrayil’ substation has been completed, and once the ‘Shafag’ Solar Power Plant is built and put into operation, the transmission of the generated ‘green energy’ will begin.
