Mehdiyev said that the Security Council members plan to visit countries of the Great Lakes region in Africa in October. The UN mission will hold consultations with the Peace and Security Council of the African Union while visiting Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Uganda in the first decade of the month.
The Security Council will host a high-level meeting dedicated to the cooperation with regional organizations, especially the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on October 28.
Mehdiyev said that the Security Council will hold 12 open meetings including debates on the Middle East, working methods of the Security Council, debates on the role of women in ensuring the rule of law in post-conflict situations. It will also hold debates on the situation in Mali, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia and Darfur and closed discussions on Syria, Sudan (South Sudan), Western Sahara.
At the end of the month the SC will discuss the execution progress of the Executive Council’s decision on prohibition of chemical weapons in Syria and the resolution adopted on Syria on September 27.
