# 20 October 2026 14:26 (UTC +04:00)

More than 645 million barrels (87 million tonnes) of oil have been produced from the East Azeri platform to date, APA-Economics reports, citing bp-Azerbaijan.

According to the company, tomorrow, October 21, marks the 20th anniversary of the first oil production from the East Azeri platform. Production from the platform began on October 21, 2006, completing Phase 2 of the full field development of the giant Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field.

It was noted that the East Azeri platform has made a significant contribution to the total 4.7 billion barrels of oil produced from the ACG field since production began in November 1997.

As of the end of the third quarter of 2026, the platform's average daily production stood at approximately 46,000 barrels.

The East Azeri facilities comprise a 48-slot production, drilling and quarters platform, a 30-inch subsea oil pipeline connected to the onshore Sangachal terminal, along with a number of in-field pipelines and systems.

Currently, around 170 people work offshore on the platform, the majority of whom are Azerbaijani nationals, including both installation managers.

According to the information, a total of 39 wells and multiple sidetracks have been drilled from the platform to date. Of the 36 wells currently active, 27 are producers, eight are water injectors, and one is a cuttings re-injector well.

It was reported that East Azeri continues to use innovation and technology to maximize oil recovery from the mature ACG field. The recently completed D18Z well achieved over 2,000 metres of open hole, including more than 1,500 metres of sand within the target reservoir. The D18Z well has the most extensive reservoir contact of any well drilled in the ACG field to date.

It should be noted that first oil from the East Azeri platform was produced through the first of eight pre-drilled wells and reached the Sangachal terminal on November 10, 2006, via a new subsea pipeline.
