Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that it is important to create safe conditions for holding presidential elections in the country.
Zelenskyy made the remarks in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
According to Zelenskyy, the main priority at present is to end the war and return to normal life. He noted that elections should be held when the time comes, and military personnel on the front lines, Ukrainians living abroad, and citizens within the country should be able to participate in the voting.
The Ukrainian President emphasized that he does not consider it possible to hold democratic elections while drone and missile attacks continue.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also appealed to the United States, requesting missile defense systems to protect Ukraine's energy infrastructure if Russian President Vladimir Putin cannot be stopped.
"If they strike us and we cannot respond, this is not honest or fair. But if this is important to you and you cannot calm Putin down, then give us missile defense systems so that I can protect the energy infrastructure. You could not stop Putin – help Ukraine," Zelenskyy said.
