Azerbaijan holding presidential elections

APA reports that 10 candidates will stand for president. They are incumbent president, chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of Hope Party Iqbal Aghazadeh, MP Zahid Oruj, chairman of Whole Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairman of Modern Musavat Party Hafiz Hajiyev, chairman of Azerbaijan Social Democratic Party Araz Alizadeh, chairman of National Revival Party Faraj Guliyev, candidate of the National Council Jamil Hasanli, chairman of Justice Party Ilyas Ismayilov and chairman of Azerbaijan Democratic Party Sardar Jalaloghlu.

5 141 000 people have right to vote in the country. The voters will cast ballots at 5491 poling stations of 125 constituencies. 5273 of the polling stations are permanent and 219 non-permanent.

The elections will start today 8 at 08:00 and last till 19:00. Following this, the votes will be counted. The Central Election Commission will provide initial information within the day at 10:00, 12:00, 15:00, 17:00 and 19:00.
38 poling stations have been established at the diplomatic missions in foreign countries for the Azerbaijanis living abroad. More than 12 000 voters will cast ballots abroad.

The Azerbaijani citizens, who are currently in Hajj pilgrimage, will also be able to vote. A polling station has been set up in Mecca in this regard. About 3700 Azerbaijanis can vote at this station.

Totally 51,898 observers will monitor the elections. Observers from nearly 100 countries will participate in the elections. Observation missions of OSCE, OSCE PA, PACE, European Parliament, CIS PA, as well as various countries will monitor the elections.

The process of voting will be monitored via web-cameras installed at 1000 polling stations of 119 Constituencies.

Exit-poll will be also conducted on the elections. Along will local organizations, the international organizations will also conduct exit-poll. The famous U.S. company Arthur J. Finkelstein & Associates (AJF) will conduct an exit-poll at APA’s request.
