CEC member, head of the Press Group Azer Taghiyev said that it is important for the Group to comment on what happened during the airtime allocated for presidential candidates on Public TV on September 19.
Taghiyev added that the dispute between Jamil Hasanli and Hafiz Hajiyev violated the requirements of the Election Code and legislation, offensive expressions were also addressed to another candidate who did not participate in the debate: “They also used tough expressions against Ilham Aliyev, who had nothing to do with the dispute. However, Jamil Hasanli without showing any proof named President Ilham Aliyev in economic crime. Hafiz Hajiyev threw a bottle at Jamil Hasanli. The actions of both candidates, highlighting of family issues are unacceptable.
CEC member Fuad Javadov said that protection of the rights of incumbent president Ilham Aliyev is the requirement of the law. He said the Ministry of Justice has an absolute right to appeal to the court regarding this fact so that the culprit is punished.
Representative of the CEC Secretariat Azer Sariyev noted that the candidates should know that the airtime is not allocated by Public TV, but by the CEC and they should appeal to the CEC, not to the presenter of the round table in this regard.
Taghiyev said that Deputy Chairman of New Azerbaijan Party Ali Ahmadov appealed to CEC regarding this fact.
Almaz Gahramanli said that there were reasons that caused such unpleasant cases during the debate. They should be investigated.
As a result of discussions, it was decided that the CEC would give legal assessment to what happened during the debate.
Press Group also called on the presidential candidates to refrain from such actions.
