Parliamentarians express opinion about the governmentâ€™s report

Baku. Elbrus Seyfullayevâ€“APA. Members of the Parliament made a number of proposals at the hearing on report about the activity of the Cabinet of Ministers in 2008, APA reports. Lawmaker Nasib Nasibli said the governmentâ€™s report was not different from the previous ones. â€œOnly figures were changed. The world is shaking with the crisis, which will last for several years more, but this report is very optimist as if the crisis has no impact on Azerbaijan. There is a different reality. The crisis is felt in Azerbaijan as wellâ€. The lawmaker considered the governmentâ€™s activity not satisfactory and said there were corruption, monopoly and oil dependence in the country.
Lawmaker Ali Husyenov said that the global crisis had no significant impact on Azerbaijan. He said the countryâ€™s leadership set a task to take preventive measures and certain work has been done, and cash income of the population was increased by 36 percent in 2008. â€œThere is a process in the world contradictory to it. Azerbaijani economy doesnâ€™t depend on oil and gas onlyâ€. The lawmaker said the report didnâ€™t describe all works and anti-corruption measures. Huseynov proposed to strengthen relations of Azerbaijanâ€™s economic institutions with the international organizations and to pay much attention to the issues of wastefulness.
MP Asef Hajiyev noted that the capital, which had been allocated in science, was not adequate to the increase of state budget.
MP Mubariz Gurbanli stressed that the report was made at a high level.
MP Gulhuseyn Ahmadov added that custom duty and VAT on grain, which was imported to the country, should be restored and cotton-growing should be developed.
MP Fazil Mustafa underlined the importance of application of anti-crisis program in Azerbaijan.
â€œThe whole world speaks about the methods on combating crisis, but Azerbaijan remains silent,â€ he said. MP said all construction works stopped because of crisis in the country. He proposed to pay special attention to agriculture.
The discussions on the report of the Government will continue in the second half of the day.
