Public hearing on genocide committed by Armenians in Khojaly

On Saturday, the Court of Grave Crimes held public hearing on the genocide committed by the Armenian military formations during the invasion of Azerbaijan’s town of Khojaly. The process was supported by the Azerbaijan Center for Protection of the Rights of Refugees and Displaced Persons, Republican Military Prosecutor’s Office, Defense Ministry and Office of the Defense Adviser to the President. The court investigated the crimes committed during the Khojaly tragedy. According to the indictment, On February 25, 1992 Armenian military formations supported by the Russian 366th motorized rifle regiment attacked the town of Khojaly. 613 Khojaly citizens were killed, 487 became invalids, 1275 peaceful residents – old people, children and women were taken hostage and cruelly tortured during the attack. 150 people were missing. Armenians killed all members of eight families. 24 children lost both parents and 130 children lost one of the parents. 56 people were killed cruelly. The prosecutor said a criminal case was launched under the articles 103 (genocide), 107 (deportation or forced exile of population), 115 (infringement of laws and customs of war), 116 (infringement of norms of the international humanitarian right during confrontations), 117 (inactivity or giving of criminal orders during a confrontation) and 118 (military robbery). Then injured residents of Khojaly gave testimony. They spoke about the tortures, killings and other crimes committed by the Armenian armed formations during the invasion of Khojaly.
A documentary film will be produced about the public hearing and will be presented in April 2009 in Baku. Then the documentary film will be sent to the Hague-based International Tribunal.
