Ramil Mammadli – APA. “Critical remarks about Azerbaijan’s judiciary in the report of the U.S. Department of State are their own opinion. We respect their report, but it would be better for each state to engage in its own judiciary. We are working for our people. Serious measures are taken about a judge taking bribes or acting illegally. I think such persons have no moral right to judge,” Chairman of the Supreme Court Ramiz Rzayev told the press conference, APA reports. He said that administrative procedure had launched about 101 judges violating the law in Azerbaijan. Disciplinary liability was imposed on 75 of them. The chairman of the Supreme Court considers that there will be problems as long as the society exists and it will influence all spheres.
“The existence of such problems in the judiciary is not denied. I have never said we all are satisfied with the activity of the courts. But it is obvious that there are improvements in Azerbaijan’s judiciary and positive tendencies are felt,” he said.
Rzayev noted that the problems in the judiciary had objective and subjective problems.
“We do our best to solve objective problems. We achieve it by various methods. For example, increasing the number of judges, reducing the work, improving material technical base of courts etc. Subjective factors are regularly discussed in the Judicial Council and relevant measures are taken,” he said.
Ramiz Rzayev said there were 470 judges in Azerbaijan.
“We pay serious attention to the activity of judges. Therefore, over 30 judges having shortcomings in their activity have not received new appointments. I think all judges should serve as an example to the entire society,” he said.
