Parliament to discuss bill on â€œAdministrative arrest of servicemenâ€ in spring session

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov â€“ APA. Azerbaijani Parliament is going to discuss the bill on â€œAdministrative arrest of servicemenâ€ in spring session, member of the Parliamentâ€™s Standing Commission on Security and Defence Issues Zahid Oruj told APA.

He said that the bill had already been included into the agenda of the spring session.
â€œI think the bill will be adopted during this session of the Parliament,â€ he said.

The parliamentarian said according to the bill the decision on the administrative arrest of servicemen will be passed by military courts.

Under the Disciplinary Regulations of Azerbaijani Armed Forces, servicemen are arrested administratively by commanders when they violate service rules and regulations.

While ratifying European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in 2001, Azerbaijan signed the item on administrative arrest with reservation. At that time Azerbaijan agreed to the arrest of only officers and ensigns under court decision.
