Fuad Aleskerov: “Eight people, including Eynulla Fatullayev were pardoned on the personal initiative of Azerbaijani Presidentâ€
- What can you say about order on pardon?
- Following the humanist traditions determined by national leader Heydar Aliyev, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed the next order on pardon. In general the pardon covered 90 prisoners. 70 people among them were freed from remained part of their imprisonment, the term of imprisonment for 2 was reduced by half, 10 people put under restraint were released from remained part of their restraint, 2 sentenced for correctional work were also released and 6 were freed from the pecuniary penalty. There are eight foreign citizens among pardoned.
-Were the appeals taken into consideration while the list was being made?
-The Commission of Pardon considered appeals concerning 300 people, 82 were recommended for pardoning taking into account the character, level of public danger of the crimes committed by them, their health, family status, their correction during the imprisonment. I would especially like to note that 8 people were pardoned on the personal initiative of Mr. President without having been discussed by the Commission.
They are Eldaniz Lahijov, former first deputy mayor of Baku, who had been imprisoned for embezzling compensations for demolition of the constructions around the U.S. embassy, Fakhraddin Abbasov, Parviz Kazimov, Akif Maharramov, Anar Namazov, Eldar Rzayev, who had been imprisoned over corruption regarding the case of Ali Insanov, Mushfig Medetov, former chief of 23rd Nizami police office of Baku, and Eynulla Fatullayev, former founder and editor-in-chief of the “Реальный Ðзербайджан†and “GündÉ™lik AzÉ™rbaycan†newspapers.
