The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) plans to expand its investments in the maritime transport sector in Azerbaijan in the future, Nataly Mouravidze, Head of the EBRD Resident Office in Azerbaijan, said during a panel discussion at the Azerbaijan–European Union Business Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, supporting sustainable transport and regional connectivity is one of the main priorities of the bank's four-year country strategy for Azerbaijan, approved in 2025.
N. Mouravidze noted that the EBRD began financing the Middle Corridor long before this route attracted widespread international interest.
She stated that the bank financed the purchase of dry cargo vessels by Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company. These vessels operate in international waters and also serve to ensure transportation along the Middle Corridor.
"We plan to expand our investments in maritime transport in the future as relevant opportunities arise," the EBRD official emphasized.
