American citizen Stephen Hubbard, who was detained by Russia four years ago during the Biden administration, has been released from prison at the request of US President Donald Trump, APA reports.
According to Trump, he personally requested Hubbard's release during a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week.
Trump said Hubbard is on his way home and will soon be reunited with his family.
The US President claimed that Russia had not demanded anything in return for Hubbard's release, describing the situation as unprecedented.
He emphasized that no prisoner exchange was necessary to secure the release.
Trump also criticized the previous Biden administration, saying Hubbard should have been released long ago and that the administration had made no progress in its negotiations with the Kremlin.
"Welcome home Stephen, it's great to have you back," Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.
