The main potential of the Middle Corridor lies not only in the transportation of goods but also in stimulating investment, employment, and private sector development in the region, Nataly Mouravidze, Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Resident Office in Azerbaijan, said during a panel discussion at the Azerbaijan–European Union Business Forum, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, the success of the Middle Corridor should be measured not only by the number of containers transported but also by the investment, jobs, and business opportunities it creates.
"The main opportunity is to transform the Middle Corridor from a transport corridor into an economic corridor," N. Mouravidze emphasized.
She stated that the corridor should stimulate the development of logistics services, warehousing, processing and manufacturing enterprises, as well as export-oriented businesses.
According to the EBRD official, the expansion of transport connections, together with sustainable development and energy transition goals, could lay the foundation for broader economic transformation in the region.
