German companies are interested in becoming part of the Middle Corridor ecosystem, Nargis Wieck, Executive Director and Board Member of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce, said during a panel discussion titled "EU-Azerbaijan Business Relations along the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor (Middle Corridor)" at the Azerbaijan–European Union Business Forum, APA reports.
She stated that over the past two years, the Middle Corridor has become increasingly recognized among the German business community.
Nargis Wieck attributed this to ongoing geopolitical changes and challenges, as well as the need for companies to manage risks and diversify supply chains.
According to her, the Middle Corridor is important not only in terms of diversifying transport and logistics routes between Europe and Asia but also in terms of increasing the resilience of supply chains. This creates new opportunities, particularly for Germany, which attaches importance to increasing added value in the industrial sector.
The Chamber's Executive Director noted that German investors are interested in becoming part of the Middle Corridor ecosystem. This interest includes investments in multimodal terminals and infrastructure, as well as the application of technologies and technical solutions.
She emphasized that the participation of German companies in the region should not be limited to transporting goods from one point to another. Azerbaijani partners are also interested in integrating German companies into the economic ecosystem being formed in the country.
Nargis Wieck stated that Azerbaijan's transformation into a regional hub across various sectors could expand cooperation opportunities for German and other European companies. According to her, increasing the presence of European businesses in the region and strengthening their position as reliable partners are of great importance.
She added that the realization of investment opportunities along the Middle Corridor does not depend solely on financial resources. Alongside government commitments and existing programs, private financing can also be utilized in this area.
