Criminal case launched over attempt of a group of religious persons to hold unauthorized rally in Azerbaijan’s capital

Baku – APA. Baku Main Police Office and Baku Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement on the attempt of a group of religious persons to hold a rally outside the Education Ministry. Interior Ministry’s press service told APA that about 150 radical religious persons attempted to hold an unauthorized rally outside the Education Ministry at 11 on May 6.

Despite the warning of the police to stop actions aiming to violate public order, they did not obey the demand and committed criminal actions against public safety.

Their aggressive and biased actions expressing disrespect to the society impeded the traffic for 15 minutes, damaged four cars and several public catering establishments and commercial facilities.

Ignoring the warning and demands of the police the participants of the rally resisted to the police officers preventing the violation of public order, 26 policemen were injured, 5 of them were hospitalized.

The urgent measures prevented the actions violating the public order.

Baku Prosecutor’s Office launched criminal case over the fact on articles 221.2.1 (hooliganism by a group of persons) and 221.2.2 (resisting to the government representative preventing the violation of public order) of the Criminal Code. Baku Main Police Office will carry out investigation.

An investigation group has been set up.

The organizers and participants of the abovementioned crime will be determined, measures will be taken concerning them.
