Spokesman for AIP Haji Akif Heydarli told APA that Baku Mayor’s Office did not consider expedient the party’s intention to hold demonstration. The letter says AIP’s 10 000-people demonstration will create difficulties for the capital’s administration, therefore Baku Mayor’s Office does not consider it expedient. Heydarli said Baku Mayor’s Office did not offer alternative venue.

The party’s functionary noted that respecting Azerbaijan’s laws, AIP will not hold unauthorized demonstration.
“The decision on the next demonstration will be passed by the party’s Main Assembly,” he said.
He said the Main Assembly will be held within two weeks.

On April 11, Azerbaijani Islamic Party (AIP) appealed to Baku Mayor’s Office for holding demonstration in one of the squares of the capital on April 24.
