Naturally, such attitude cause the protest of the citizens”, said Chairwoman of the Azerbaijani parliament’s committee for human rights Rabiyyat Aslanova in the interview to YAP’s official website, commenting on the thoughts of European Union’s officials on the limitation of freedom of expression and assembly in Azerbaijan.

Aslanova noted that there is no problem in the security of protection of human rights, freedom of expression and speech in Azerbaijan. According to her, these rights were reflected in the relevant legislation: “Especially one need to note that Azerbaijan’s national legislation on these issues meets the European standards. Those documents were examined by the Council of Europe’s Venice Commission and got a positive opinion. From this point of view, the laws in our country on freedom of expression, speech and assembly correlate with the principles of the international conventions. There are all conditions in Azerbaijan for the freedom of speech and expression”.

The committee chairwoman said that some international organizations don’t assess rightly the current situation in our country. “Without assessing rightly the democratic reforms implemented in Azerbaijan, those organizations claim that there are problems in Azerbaijan. Of course, all of these are incorrect. From this point of view, such attitude of the European influential organizations is very regretful”.
