Head of investigation group: 11 faced criminal proceedings over the happenings in the unauthorized rally held on April 2 - INTERVIEW
-What can you say about the criminal case launched by Baku Prosecutor’s Office over the rally held in the center of the capital on April 2?
-As a result of the unauthorized mass rally held by the Public Chamber, which includes the members of Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Musavat Party, Azerbaijan National Independence Party and Classic Popular Front Party in the Fountain Square, Nizami street and other places in Baku on April 2, public order was violated, resistance was shown to the government representatives fulfilling their duties to maintain public order. A number of commercial, public catering facilities, vehicles owned by the citizens and police were damaged. Baku Prosecutor’s Office launched criminal case on articles 233 and 315.1 of the Criminal Code. Baku Prosecutor’s Office and Baku Main Police Office set up a joint investigation group.
-How many persons have faced criminal proceedings in connection with the investigation?
-11 faced criminal proceedings, including 9 faced charges under article 233, 2 under articles 233 and 315.1, 10 of them were sentenced to pretrial detention. 6 of those who faced criminal proceedings are members of APFP, 4 of Musavat, 1 is a non-party man.
-Was anybody injured in the rally on April 2? Were there police officers among them?
-The medical forensic examination determined that 40 had been injured in the rally. 24 of them were police officers, 16 participants of the rally.
-You told our agency that a number of facilities had been damaged. Were these cases confirmed? Could you name the damaged facilities and the amount of the damage?
-The investigation determined that 15 police cars, 4 cars owned by citizens had been damaged. The amount of the damage is AZN 10 481. Moreover, the windows of 13 facilities were broken, the things were damaged. The amount of the damage is AZN 3 794. Totally, the amount of damage is AZN 14 275.
-According to media reports, there were persons in the rally, who were committing provocative actions. Video recordings have been posted on the internet. Have these cases been confirmed in the investigation materials? Is it being investigated?
-Investigation continues in connection with the video recordings and media reports, additional information will be given.
