Fourteen people have been detained during searches conducted in the city of Stepanavan, Armenia, News-Armenia reports, citing Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee.
The Committee stated that the searches and other investigative measures carried out in the city were conducted as part of an ongoing criminal investigation.
It was noted that the investigative body would provide additional information if necessary.
The Committee did not provide further information on whether the detained individuals were connected to the searches conducted at the local office of the Strong Armenia party.
Earlier, Andranik Gevorgyan, an MP from the Strong Armenia faction, announced that party supporters were being detained en masse in Stepanavan and that searches were being conducted in homes, as well as at the party's local office.
The detentions took place ahead of the local self-government elections scheduled for October 25 in Stepanavan. Strong Armenia has nominated a candidate for mayor in Stepanavan in these elections.
