Azerbaijani President attends inauguration of reconstructed Astara-Bala Shakhagaj highway

APA reports quoting AzerTAc in Astaraâ€™s central park named after Heydar Aliyev, the Head of State laid flowers at the monument to Heydar Aliyev, national leader of Azerbaijan. President was informed about the major reconstructions made in Astaraâ€™s Heydar park.
Following this, President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of highway between Astara and Bala Shakhagaj village, which has recently undergone major reconstruction. The President examined the photo stand featuring the status of the road before and after the repairs.
Addressing the inauguration, Mayor of Astara Mahir Guliyev said that under the instructions of President, important activities are being carried out to improve road infrastructure in the regions. Construction of Astara-Bala Shakhagaj highway, a major road of the region, is one of these activities. Mahir Guliyev said the project was implemented in accordance with the President Ilham Aliyevâ€™s April 21, 2010 order â€œon measures to speed up social and economic development of Astara regionâ€. The Order allocated AZN 3.5 million from the Presidentâ€™s Reserve Fund to the Astara Executive Power to implement the project.

The head of state was informed that 19-km Astara-Bala Shakhagaj road along with the coastal line of the Caspian Sea earlier used in parallel with Alat-Astara highway became worthless as a result of neglect and rise of sea level. Astara railway station, constructed Astara Olympic Center, oil and cargo terminals, as well as other public facilities are located on the roadside which covers seven large residential settlements of the region. The road was reconstructed according to the modern standards. Reinforcement work has been done in area of 500 m due to its neighborhood with the Caspian Sea. The road has a 6-meter-wide asphalt coat including a 2.6-meter-wide pavement on both sides. Also 3 bridges, 6 water junctions and 5 bus stations were constructed on the road.

After the meeting with the local residents, President Ilham Aliyev cut the red ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the highway.
The head of state highly appreciated the work done on Astara-Bala Shakhagaj highway.
