First Lady of Azerbaijan: â€œUnfortunately, the international community didnâ€™t react to the burning of Holy Quranâ€

Baku. Viktoria Dementyeva, Ulkar Gasimova â€“ APA. â€œAzerbaijan, where the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue is taking place, has hosted several such events recently. In 2009 Baku was declared the Capital of Islamic Culture, the meeting of the culture ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Conference was held in Baku. In 2008 Baku Declaration was adopted at the international conference on the role of women in the cross-cultural dialogue. Actually, there is favorable environment in Azerbaijan to hold such events. Azerbaijan is a country open to the whole world, there exists high tolerance here,â€ President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Parliamentarian Mehriban Aliyeva said addressing the session â€œWomen as key agents of Intercultural Dialogueâ€ held within the framework of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue.

She noted the activity of different religious confessions. Mehriban Aliyeva thanked the international organizations for their support to this grandiose event in Baku: â€œTodayâ€™s event is as step contributing to the healthy relations between the states. Intercultural dialogue is one of the topical issues in the world now. Round tables, forums, conferences dedicated to this problem are held in different countries. Unfortunately, this notwithstanding, confrontations are not reduced, but in contrary, increased. Unfortunately, hostility, ethnic cleansing, wars became realities of todayâ€™s worldâ€.

Mehriban Aliyeva also made comments on the burning of Holy Quran by a priest in the United States. â€œSome forces play on the sacred feelings of the people. All of religions are close to each other, we human beings believe in different religions, but pray to one God. Essence of our prayers is the same. Unfortunately today we face with the fact, which doesnâ€™t go in the humanity. A man, who names himself as a religious figure, burnt Holy Quran. How can this action be named? What is his goal? What forces ordered it? Much to my regret, the international community didnâ€™t react to the burning of Holy Quran and didnâ€™t make commentâ€.

Mehriban Aliyeva also mentioned the politicization of the religion and called it as one of the biggest problems of humanity.
